Nile Rodgers’ We Are Family Foundation joins Cancer Awareness Trust as latest Founding Partner
Two-time cancer survivor, legendary music icon, philanthropist and life-long activist Nile Rodgers joins forces with Prof. Sir Chris Evans by uniting the We Are Family Foundation (WAFF) and Cancer Awareness Trust (CAT) on the mission to empower people to change the course of cancer.
Co-Founded by Nile Rodgers and Nancy Hunt, WAFF is a hugely respected non-profit organisation dedicated to the vision of a global family by creating and supporting programs that promote cultural diversity while nurturing and mentoring the vision, talents, and ideas of young people who are positively changing the world.
By coming together, WAFF and CAT are leaning into tackling the known inequalities and inequities of access to expert-led cancer information, services and stories. WAFF identifies and supports global young people who are at the forefront of solving some of the world’s greatest challenges, including medical access and inequities as well as detection and treatment of medical issues including cancer. Nile’s own experience of cancer will feed into the design and development of Cancer Platform and will inspire others to do the same. The collaboration supports our mission to engage diverse communities, include young people in the ongoing dialogue, and particularly those adversely affected by the worst cancer outcomes.
Nile Rodgers is a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement honoree as well as a multiple Grammy Award winning songwriter, composer, producer, arranger and guitarist. Nile served as the first ever Chief Creative Advisor to our partners Abbey Road Studios and is the Chairman of the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
As the Co-founder of CHIC, Nile pioneered a musical language that generated chart-topping hits like "Le Freak”, the biggest selling single in the history of Atlantic Records and sparked the advent of hip-hop with "Good Times” and “Rapper’s Delight”.
His work in The CHIC Organization, including “We Are Family” for Sister Sledge and “I’m Coming Out” for Diana Ross, and his productions for artists such as David Bowie (“Let’s Dance”), Madonna (“Like A Virgin”) and friends of the charity, Duran Duran (“Notorious” & “The Reflex”), have sold more than 500 million albums and 100 million singles worldwide, while his innovative, trendsetting collaborations with Daft Punk, Daddy Yankee, LE SSERAFIM and Beyoncé reflect the vanguard of contemporary hits.
Co-Founder of WAFF Nile Rodgers adds: “As a two-time cancer survivor, I know first-hand that the work of the Cancer Awareness Trust is critical to all of us. I could not be prouder to be associated with them and to support the work of Sir Chris.”
Founder, Prof. Sir Chris Evans adds: “The ‘good times’ are here! I’m beyond excited to launch our collaboration with We Are Family Foundation, bringing everything they and Nile stand for to our mission at Cancer Awareness Trust. Nile’s own cancer journey, his incredible career of songs that get everyone dancing and feeling hopeful, the Foundations’ work in promoting a better world through diversity. It’s all brilliantly aligned with everything we stand for across Cancer Platform and Evamore Music. Welcome to the team."
